J.R.'s brother Dallas and his wife (and my BFF) Jessica came to visit us this weekend! Jess works for an airline, so they were able to fly right in to the Cheyenne airport, which is only about 5 minutes from our house. When I got up on Friday morning to go pick them up from the airport, you can imagine my disgust to see about 6 inches of snow on the ground. Even better than that, I remembered that the heater in my car is broken. Perfect. But, I got Jack all bundled up, into the car, and to the airport without incident. I did such a good job getting him dressed that he was sweating by the time we got the airport.
J.R. bought tickets for him and Dall to the U of U - CSU game in Fort Collins. They had a blast, but they almost froze their butts off! J.R. wore these giant winter boots that all the military dudes get issued here... He looked like Mickey Mouse. They are probably 4 times the size of regular shoes. They kept his feet nice and warm at the game, though, even though he looked like an idiot.
Jessica, Jack and I went shopping at the outlets and the mall where I spent way too much money on some new clothes/shoes/jewelry for myself. Don't worry, I didn't spend that much... I may be a bit of a shop-a-holic, but I'm also cheap. I've been told by many people that I walk like a horse, so to that end I rarely spend over $15 on a pair of shoes, because I know they'll be toast in a few short months. Same goes with shirts... I don't like to separate laundry, so it's anything goes on wash day. Panties with jeans? Sure! Silky shirt with dirty towels? Don't mind if I do! I'm addicted to cheap jewelry. When people invite me to a Lia Sophia party I usually let them know up front that I'm not going to buy anything. The stuff is beautiful, but I'd rather go to Forever 21 and spend $4 on a necklace that's probably just going to get lost anyway. But if you've already gotten me expensive jewelry for my upcoming b-day or Christmas, I won't turn it down... I just don't want to pay for it.
Jess and I also went to Babies R Us to check out some nursery furniture for their new bambino. My new niece or nephew is due on May 11... So exciting! They are keeping the name a secret, but I did find out that "Cletus the Fetus'" future name has at least 7 letters... Let the guessing game begin! We are all pretty sure that it's a girl, but who really knows. We'll find out for sure in about 5 weeks... I can't wait!
Dall and Jess have come to visit us every place we've been stationed so far, and we always have a swell time. When we were stationed in Cali, we went wine tasting, went to a street fair, and just tooled around together like old times. I have tons of pictures from all the times they've come to see us. I would love to share some pictures from this weekend, but I'm a complete derp and didn't take any. I didn't even realize it until they were already home in Salt Lake. I am seriously so mad at myself for this.
I did take this cute one of Jack all bundled up right before we left for the airport:
Dall and Jess got married about 2 months after we did, and they even took a late honeymoon to visit J.R. and I at our first house in Monterey. It's crazy to think about how all of us have changed since then, but we still love being together. J.R. and I always talk about what life is going to be like 15 years down the road, and I like to think that Dall and Jess will still be coming to visit us, and by then Jack will be learning how to drive, their little one will be in middle school, and us parents will be doing middle aged things like Yahtzee or whatever it is you do when you're 42.
You make me laugh. Pretty sure I'm jealous that people come to visit you (it's a rarity that people come see me!!). I'm also pretty jealous that you got to see snow; I really miss it. Winter/Christmas just aren't the same without it.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE your laundry mantra--that just makes me laugh out loud. I wish I could say the same, but I'm pretty anal retentive when it comes to laundry (um...and other things...)... :)
